How Steve Tracks 50+ Competitors Without Manual Research
Discover how Steve automates competitor tracking at scale with automatic research, real-time monitoring, and instant status updates for unlimited competitors.
Tracking more than 5-10 competitors manually becomes impossible. Each competitor requires hours of research—monitoring their website, reading reviews, tracking pricing changes, analyzing features. PMMs end up choosing which competitors to ignore.
This creates competitive blind spots. The competitor you're not tracking launches a feature that directly threatens your positioning. By the time you notice, it's too late—sales is already losing deals and doesn't know why.
How Steve Automates Competitor Tracking
Steve removes the manual work from competitor tracking through automated research and monitoring. Track 50, 100, or 500 competitors with the same effort it takes to track one.
Adding Competitors Takes Seconds
Navigate to Competitors in your Steve project. Click Add Competitor in the top-right corner.

Screenshot description: Capture the Competitors page at /projects/[id]/competitors. Show the "Add Competitor" button prominently in the top-right corner. Below, display a grid view of multiple competitor tiles (at least 6-8 competitors visible). Each tile should show the competitor logo, company name, website URL, and research status indicator. Highlight the "Add Competitor" button with an arrow or glow effect.
Enter competitor website URLs. Steve accepts any format:
competitor.comwww.competitor.comhttps://competitor.com/product
Add up to 5 competitors at once by clicking Add another URL. Steve extracts company details automatically from the website—name, logo, description—no manual data entry required.
Click Submit. Steve immediately queues automated research for each competitor.
Automatic Research Runs in Background
The moment you add a competitor, Steve triggers automatic research. The createAndTriggerResearch API mutation starts background jobs that:
Scrape competitor websites for:
- Product features and capabilities
- Pricing tiers and plans
- Customer testimonials
- Company positioning and messaging
Aggregate review data from:
- G2 reviews and ratings
- Capterra feedback
- TrustRadius comparisons
- Customer sentiment analysis
Extract market intelligence:
- Funding announcements
- Leadership team
- Target customer profiles
- Geographic markets served
Steve doesn't wait for you to manually research each area. Everything runs automatically in parallel.
Real-Time Research Status Updates
The Competitors page auto-refreshes every 3 seconds while research is running. You don't need to manually reload—Steve shows progress in real-time.
Each competitor tile displays a research status indicator with three states:
Pending (orange dot) - Research actively running in background Partial (blue dot) - Some data collected, shows "8/15 fields" progress Complete (green dot) - All available intelligence gathered

Screenshot description: Capture a close-up of a single competitor tile during active research. Show the competitor name and logo at top. Below the website URL, display the research status indicator with an orange pulsing dot and the text "Researching..." Optionally show a second tile next to it with "8/12 fields" and a blue dot to demonstrate the "partial" state. Add labels or arrows pointing to the status indicators.
Research typically completes in 2-5 minutes per competitor. For 50 competitors added simultaneously, Steve finishes all research in the same 2-5 minute window because processing happens in parallel, not sequentially.
Tracked vs. Untracked Competitors
Steve separates competitors into Tracked and Untracked tabs. This lets you:
Actively monitor your primary competitors in the Tracked view Keep secondary competitors in Untracked for reference without cluttering your main view Toggle tracking status anytime with a single click
Only tracked competitors appear in battle cards, news alerts, and automated reports. Untracked competitors remain in your database for future activation.

Screenshot description: Capture the Competitors page showing the tabs "All", "Tracked", and "Untracked" at the top. Display the Tracked tab as selected/active with several competitor tiles visible. Show at least 8-10 competitor tiles in the grid below the tabs. Highlight the tab navigation with a border or arrow to emphasize the filtering capability.
This flexibility means you can add every competitor you've ever heard of—no limit on total competitors—then choose which ones get active monitoring based on your current priorities.
Scaling Competitor Tracking
Manual competitor tracking doesn't scale:
- 5 competitors: 10-15 hours/week monitoring
- 10 competitors: 20-30 hours/week monitoring
- 20+ competitors: Impossible without a dedicated team
Steve's automated tracking scales infinitely:
- 5 competitors: 2 minutes to add, automatic monitoring
- 50 competitors: 10 minutes to add, automatic monitoring
- 500 competitors: 1 hour to add, automatic monitoring
The effort to add competitors is the only variable. Monitoring and research happen automatically regardless of quantity.

You set the monitoring frequency—daily, weekly, or real-time for critical competitors. Steve handles all data collection and change detection automatically.
Zero Manual Maintenance Required
Traditional competitive intelligence requires:
- Quarterly manual review of each competitor
- Updating spreadsheets with new data points
- Re-reading review sites for sentiment changes
- Manually checking pricing pages for updates
- Hunting for news and announcements
Steve eliminates all manual maintenance:
- Automatic data refresh keeps intelligence current
- Change detection alerts notify you of updates
- Real-time sync to battle cards and reports
- Zero spreadsheets to manually update
Your role shifts from data collection to strategic analysis. Spend time deciding how to respond to competitive threats, not discovering what the threats are.
Add Competitors in Bulk
Found a list of 20 competitors from a G2 category page? Add all 20 at once.
Steve's bulk add interface accepts up to 5 URLs per submission. Submit 5 at a time until your full competitor list is loaded. Each batch triggers independent research jobs—no waiting for one batch to finish before adding the next.
For larger imports (50+ competitors), Steve's API supports programmatic bulk upload. Feed Steve a CSV of competitor URLs and let automation handle the rest.
