Competitor News with /latest-news
Pull the latest competitor news on demand in Zoom, or have Steve post digests to a channel
Overview
/latest-news pulls the latest competitor news and updates on demand. And with a little setup, Steve posts the same news to a channel automatically, so nobody has to ask.
Who it's for: ๐ฏ Sales Rep ยท ๐ฃ PMM โ anyone who needs to stay current on what competitors are doing.
Use case: Before a pipeline review or a competitive call, you want the latest competitor announcements, funding news, and LinkedIn activity.
Prerequisites
- A Steve project with competitors configured and news tracking enabled
- The Steve bot added to the channel, if you're running it in a channel
How to use it
/latest-news
In a channel, address the bot instead: /steve latest-news
- Steve posts a filter card. Choose the project.
- Refine with competitor, duration, and items count.
- Press Submit.
- Steve returns each item as a headline, a short summary, its source type (๐ฐ News or ๐ผ LinkedIn), and how recent it is, with a link to read the original.

Caption: Each result is a headline, a short summary, and how recent it is, so you can skim before a call.
If nothing matches, Steve suggests a longer duration or a different competitor rather than returning an empty result.
Set up automatic news digests
You don't have to run the command to stay informed. Configure a channel where Steve posts regular competitor updates on a Daily or Weekly schedule. See Zoom News Summary for the full setup.
Best ways to use it
๐ฏ For sales reps
- Run it before a competitive call so you're not blindsided by a launch or a funding announcement the buyer just read.
- Watch the digest channel your PMM set up; that's your passive feed.
๐ฃ For PMM
- Configure a Daily or Weekly digest per project so the field is informed without pinging you.
- Use the on-demand command to spot-check what's surfacing before it hits the team channel.
Next Steps
- Zoom News Summary โ schedule the same news into a channel.
- Chat with Steve โ ask what this news means for how you sell against them.
- Compare with /vs-competitor โ turn the news into a side-by-side for the deal.
