Overview

Quick answers to the questions we get most often about Steve in Zoom. If yours isn't here, try Troubleshooting or contact us.

Installing and access

Do I need to be a Zoom admin to add Steve? No, but you do need permission to authorize apps on your Zoom account. If your admin has restricted the Marketplace, ask them to pre-approve Steve.

Do I need to be a Steve admin? Yes. Only a Steve organization manager can connect, configure, or disconnect integrations.

Can one Zoom account connect to more than one Steve organization? No. A Zoom account can be linked to a single Steve organization at a time. If you see "already connected to another organization", disconnect it from the other organization first.

Privacy and permissions

Does Steve read all of my Zoom messages? No. Steve only reads messages in direct messages with the bot and in channels the bot has been explicitly added to.

Does Steve access my Zoom meetings or cloud recordings? No. The Team Chat app has no meeting or recording access — it only reads and posts messages in Zoom Team Chat.

Which permissions does Steve ask for, and why? See the Permissions requested section of Adding the App for the full scope-by-scope explanation.

Using the bot

Why isn't the bot replying in a channel? In channels you must address it with its slash command — /steve <command>. Also confirm the bot is a member of that channel.

Which commands are available? /battle-cards, /latest-news, /canvas, /vs-competitor, /prep <LinkedIn URL>, and /help — plus plain-language questions with no command at all. See the Overview.

Can I ask follow-up questions? Yes. Reply in the same thread and Steve keeps the context of that conversation.

Why did Steve ask me to pick a project? Commands are project-scoped. If you're assigned to exactly one project Steve skips the picker; otherwise it asks which project you mean.

Why was my answer split across several messages? Long results are continued as replies in the same thread so nothing is cut off.

Summaries and insight capture

How do I stop the daily or weekly summaries without removing the app? Open the project in Steve → Zoom settings and clear the notification channel.

Why don't my channels show up in the settings dropdowns? The Steve bot isn't a member of them yet. Add the bot in Zoom Team Chat, then reopen the settings page.

Can I stop Steve from posting Yes / No cards in a channel? Yes — remove the channel from the project's intelligence channels, or switch the project to PMM approval only, which posts no in-channel card.

Removing the app

Will removing the app delete my Steve data? No. Removing the Zoom app only ends Steve's access to Zoom. Your Steve projects, battle cards, and saved insights remain in the Steve web app. See How your data is handled after removal in Removing the App.

What exactly gets deleted when I disconnect? Your Zoom OAuth tokens, the linked Zoom account ID and email, and your saved Zoom channel selections. After that Steve cannot call the Zoom API on your behalf.

How do I request full deletion of all Zoom-derived data? Email tech@hiresteve.ai from an organization manager's address with the subject "Zoom data deletion request". Requests are processed within 30 days.
